Hackers and Painters

Paul Graham created ViaWeb was in the first ones to think of an application as a service and sold its company to Yahoo. After being swallowed his company became Yahoo Store.

Paul Graham started his book comparing hackers and painters. I’d expected him to keep at that level. But he soon focused on start-up thingies. Hopefully he’s not using corporate newspeech. And this book may be an excellent motivator when you want to create a start-up. (i wasn’t looking forward to this).

Some of the thoughts exposed were taken from Peopleware (more about this one later). The sources are old, the examples reworked but I do prefer pristine. Anyways Paul Graham added the appropriate twist.
Some other thoughts are really interesting: I’d advise you to read it if you want to learn about

  • competitive advantage;
  • out of the box thinking;
  • unleashing creativity.

To summarize: very good but unexpected content.
